Local school have chosen to sponsor old boy in their desire to galvanise links with alumni & old boys club.

Bablake School is very pleased to sponsor Andy Haughian, one of its former pupils, for the 2018-19 season, and looks forward to strengthening links with the Old Wheatleyans RFC and all former pupils linked with the club.

Andy's impact for the Wheats at the end of last season and start of this has shown he is an exciting, emerging talent in adult rugby. When we were looking for a player to sponsor, we were impressed with the professional attitude he shows both in his games for the Wheats and management of his future career in civil engineering/ construction. We are certain he will prove an excellent ambassador for both the school and club.

Mr Rob Burdett, Bablake’s 1st XV coach, adds: 'I am delighted Bablake School is to sponsor Andy. During his time at Bablake, he was a tough, uncompromising open-side flanker, superb in defence and with great pace and skill. I will always remember his first session as an 11 year old when, during an introduction to the tackle, he picked someone up and drove them back 5m! At school he went on to represent the 1st XV over 3 seasons as well as the Midlands Lambs.’

Bablake is one of the leading schools in the Midlands, educating children from 3 - 18yrs across the Pre Prep, Junior and Senior schools. We are proud to be rated currently the 18th best coeducational school in the UK (The Times 2018).

Andy Haughian said of his sponsorship link up “I would like to thank Bablake School for kindly offering sponsorship for the forthcoming 2018/19 season. Since leaving Bablake in 2014 I was always keen to maintain strong links with staff, friends and alumni throughout my time at Leeds University and now into Post Graduate employment. With generations of Bablake alumni playing at the club I find it is a great way for me to maintain these links and establish new friendships. I have always appreciated the historic links between the school and the club and I believe playing rugby on a Saturday with friends I grew up with is a great way to secure this link for the future. I would say to any ex-Bablake lad who is either at University or in full-time employment around the city to come down and get involved, it’s a brilliant way to keep in-touch and enjoy a game of rugby with a social afterwards!”
