Not knowing what our opponents had to offer resulted in a strong side being selected and the following team turned out:
Dom, Clarkey and Liam started in the front row. Returning ex-skipper Wrighty packed down with Brooksy in the second row and the fleet footed Marco and Weaves were joined by JF on his debut in the back row. A pining Lowey was at 9 (yearning to be strapped up by a female) and RT continued at 10. A new centre partnership of Brown and Horton marshalled the midfield. The back three consisted of the in-form Joe Bristow (promoted after his hat-trick last weekend for the 2’s), The Snake and Noodles at fullback. The aggressive and upset Rossco was benched and Big Kris joined him, both ready to make an impact – joined by the Welsh Wizard.
The game couldn’t have started worse for the Wheats as they conceded virtually straight away from the KO. Unforced errors, a penalty and a dropped pass put the visitors in for within a minute – 0-5 with the conversion missed.
This kick-started the Wheat's into action and a strong scrum and lineout provided a platform for the Wheats to march up field and score 4 tries. The most impressive saw a series of dominant phases finishing with a fantastic line being taken by Horton to score under the posts. JF on debut and 2 for the Snake adding to a Horton penalty saw The Wheat's stroll into the half time break 23 -5 up.
The chat at half time was all about keeping the pressure on the opposition and trying to work harder on the pattern.
The second half started brightly and one of the opposition decided to lash out right in front on the Referee to leave him with little choice other than giving the old man 10minutes in the bin. This then allowed the Wheat's to hit the Casuals with 2 well worked tries culminating with last season’s highest scorer, Ross Harrison adding to his first half brace to complete his hat-trick. Rob T made a rare visit to the opposition try line to open his account for the season - this effectively put the game out of reach for the travelling team.
Stupidly Wright decided to retaliate to an opposing player which resulted in the referee binning him for the last 10 minutes of the game – where Casuals then made the home team pay with a quick fire two tries. The game finished 33-17 to The Wheats.
The Wheat's return to league action this weekend Away against a strong Southam team, for a 3pm kick-off – all supporters welcome. The 2nd team are once again playing and are at Home versus Barkers Butts.
