WHEAT'S TAKE ALL 5 POINTS AT SOUTHAM

Having picked up 7 points from the last 2 league games and with a good Cup win recorded last week, the Wheats arrived at Southam in reasonably confident mood - the injury list is getting smaller and the team and individuals are developing well and starting to get used to the demands of Midlands 3 rugby.

Rossco, Clarky and Liam started in the front-row, BJ was back from an intensive fitness programme in Liverpool and packed down with Skipper Hero in the second row. The pack was completed with Casper, Fitt and Loachy in the back row.
Lowey at 9 and Cassell at 10 started together at half-back for the first time. Browny and Nolan continued their blossoming partnership in the centre and a pacey looking Harrison, Dru and Chip made up the back 3.
Chunky, Brooksy and Rhys prowled the touchline primed to make an impact from the bench.

What transpired over the next 80 minutes was a fine 18 man performance from an exciting and expansive young Wheats team.

The pack developed a solid platform up front; the lineout functioning efficiently, the scrum sturdy and carrying the ball effectively. This platform enabled Lowey and Cassell to pull the strings and unleash wave after wave of attacks with strong running from Brown and Nolan looking to create space out wide for Ross, Dru and Chip.

Well worked moves saw Dru and Ross cross the try-line in the first half with a solitary Southam penalty the only response. Turning round 10-3 up seemed scant consolation for the Wheats first half dominance but perhaps, in hindsight, it helped to keep the mind focussed and the foot on the pedal.

If the Wheats were dominant in the first half, there is not a suitable adjective to describe their superiority in the second half.

Running in 35 unanswered points from 5 converted tries, the home side simply had no answer to the Wheats potent attack and stinging defence.

Chunk, Brooksy and Rhys all made great impact from the bench, the pack continued to provide good, consistent ball and the backs worked their magic.

Harrison completed his second hat-trick in two weeks, Dru went over from distance for his second of the game, Brooks powered over out wide and Cassell completed the romp, dancing over from 20 metres out. With Cassell’s kicking boots having been discovered at half-time conversions were flying over from all angles – a perfect 5 from 5.

A very good 45-3 victory Away at seasoned Midlands 3 opposition will continue to grow the Wheats confidence and with a good week at training they will be looking forward to hosting Pinley next Saturday.
