An outstanding team performance saw the Old Wheatleyans' back to winning ways as they systematic took Shipston-on-Stour RFC to pieces at Norman Place Road in front of a large local crowd. Welcoming back centre Joe Loach from injury, the home side were the first to cross the line with a fantastic cutting move which saw Leo Craddock glide through the bewildered defence. This try started the ball rolling for Matt Sanders (2) to cross the whitewash followed by Dan Brooks, Joe Loach (2) and Makhan Bhinder (with the young power house of a prop showing his gas as he raced for a charge down and elegantly flopped over for the points). The final try from Loach was an exceptional team play and it summed up Wheats dominance and hard work from all the players.
Coach Jonathan Fitt explained "The players are really starting to gel and they are understanding the type of game we are able to play. What is scary is that we are still not quiet match sharp and are comfortably scoring tries. The efforts that all the players are putting in on and off the training field is reason for these success and with leaders like McCallum, Rooke, Craig, Lowe, Saunders and Brown we are certainly moving in the right direction".
The STAGS travelled to Shipston to play their second string and also came out victorious in a fantastically spirited performance - 0-17 (Scorers were Langton x 2, Rubes x 1 and the Aussie Coleman slotting a conversation).
Well done to those Stags that stepped up and played, along with debutant James Brewer!
The Wheats travel to Southam RFC Next week looking to build on this performance and will look to avenge defeat from the same fixture last year. The Stags welcome friendly rivals Pinley RFC from Wyken Croft - both for a 3pm KO.
