Stags come away with victory
By Joe Bristow
Strong second half performance fro the Stags
A wet and cold afternoon for the Stags to travel to Coventrians to play apart in their VP's day.
Several cry offs in the week lead to 21 Stags turning up on Saturday. Still a very healthy number indeed during the warm up we were notified that Coventrians were down to 10 after cry offs of their own.
After a reshuffle 5 willing lads made their way over go put on the Coventrians short so we could have a 15 aside game.
The wet conditions didn't make for a great example of rugby in the first half after being camped in the Coventrians half for 90% of it. We failed to make our chances count and it was typical the home side scored a break away try to lead 5-0 at the break.
At HT more reshuffling happened as we swapped the 5 lads so that they all got to play for the Wheats on the day.
Coventrians had youth on their side with 8 of their lads coming from the university. But Wheats had experience in the squad and scored 4 second half tries. 2 from hard running Sam Garbett and 2 from Mark Rawlings.
Stand out displays from:
Mark Rawlings only his second game back after injury.
Jace Wetton rolling back the years with a series of bustling runs.
Craigy Gummery playing his first bit of rugby in 15 or so years and loving it.
Sam Garbett for running hard lines and being strong in D!
Johnny Moffit for constantly running and making tackles.
Saul and Ross for travelling 100s of miles to play.
We look forward to the next Stags fixture on the 9th November under the Friday night lights.
