Hard running centre wins player of the month

Hard running centre James Hancox has been named as the Old Wheatleyans Player of the Month for September. After a fantastic start to the season for the Wheats winning all 4 games in September, it was a tough choice for player of the month. James who is sponsored by Zenith Contract Services, has had pretty much the perfect start to the season. Playing in 3 of the games during September he has scored an impressive 8 tries!!! A hat trick v Bedworth in the Warwickshire Vase set him on his way for the season. Missing the game v Claverdon, due to a stag do, the 29 year old came back the week after and scored a fantastic try in a tough game away to Coventrians in the league.

Due to Bedford Swifts crying off in the 1st round of the Midlands Vase competition the Wheats had a free pass to the next round. This meant Hancox was unable to add to his already impressive try tally. Then came a 4 try haul against Greyhound, the week after, in front of our VP’s! Including a wonderful solo try from inside his own 22.

Hancox was buzzing to hear about being named player of the month!

“It's an honour and a privilege playing for Old Wheats, the atmosphere at the club is electric at the moment, the forwards are providing some serious muscle up front along with quick ball allowing our skillful backs to thrive which explains all the tries! Long may it continue. UP THE WHEATS!”
