It is VP's day at the club as the 1st XV go head to head with Greyhound RFC. The Wheats look to go 3 from 3 in the league to recently promoted side Greyhound. Most of the boys had the week off last week due to Bedford Swifts calling the Midlands Vase tie off.
Greyhound have had a mixed start to the season losing 1 and winning 1 last time out v Kings Norton. Wheats have beaten Claverdon and Coventrians so far this league campaign with maximum points from both games and sit at the top of Midlands 4 (South).
Team News:
Tough decisions had to be made by coach Matthew Cappell this week due to about 30 players wanting to play on VP's day! A few changes from the side that ran out against Coventrians include Ben Dale coming into partner James Fisher in the second row and a whole new back row coming in this week with Dean Beauchamp dropping to 6 with James Pryzbek coming in at 7. Big Ben Craig starts his first game at 8 this season after previously playing at prop against Bedworth in cup. The backs include just 1 change to the starting line up with Steve Pahal returning on the wing.
Coaches Corner
Over the last 2 seasons selection has only ever been hard twice I would say, but each week this season it's becoming more difficult. I bet there are few disappointed lads out there this week wanting to play in front of the VP's!
But the coaching team and the captain have all had input and we think we have made the right calls, for the right reasons.
There will be periods of rest for some players just to keep them fresh for a long season ahead.
We had a great weekend last week with 27 lads playing rugby from the club. From 18 year olds to 40+ which is brilliant and we need to keep it that going. We as a club are pushing for 2 stags games a month now and that is vital for the success of the club and to get everyone game time!
