Looking to follow-up their opening weekend League victory, the Wheats squad was looking strong despite 4 enforced changes to the previous week.
Jack and Liam hugged Clarky in the front row. Wrighty and Rookey packed down in the engine room and Ronan, Weaves and Captain Critch completed the pack in the back-row.
Ollie and Killer paired up at half-back, Browny and Rhys continued their partnership in the centre and a sharp looking back 3 of Ross, Dru ad Billy completed the starting fifteen.
Chunky, Hunty and Loachy prowled the touchline awaiting the call from Coach Clarkey.
The sun broke out and the perfect Pershore pitch was made for running rugby – and the Wheats duly obliged.
Within 10 minutes, a Killer line break and superb off-load saw Dru power under the posts, Billy converted and the Wheats were 7-0 up.
The forwards were in sublime form; putting immense pressure on the Pershore scrum and Rookey imperious at line-out time.
This domination combined with excellent defence saw further scores for Browny and Ross, Billy converting one and adding a penalty. All Pershore could manage in reply was 2 well drilled penalties.
Half-time 22-6
The first 15 minutes of the second half saw further Wheats domination and they were rewarded when an excellent break from Ronan teed Weaves up to race between the posts for the bonus point, Billy converting for a 29-6 lead.
Pershore found their mojo and began putting the Wheats under pressure with some powerful running and good territory. This pressure led to 2 tries from close in rolling mauls – ONE WAS CONVERTED – 29-18.
Hunty, Chunky and Loachy all came off the bench and made an immediate impact – Chunky in the scrum, Hunty at the breakdown and Loachy carrying powerfully.
The game was played out without further scores to give the Wheats a great win on the road. An immense forward performance backed up by outstanding defence and good pace from the backs leaves Coach Clarkey very satisfied but with much to work on and much more to come.
Well done you Wheats Boys!
